Amen! I miss the midwest too! For me the list is a little different since I live upstate near Albany and I lived in Cincinnati. But I dearly miss the midwest. Lower taxes, lower cost of living, lower gas prices, lower mortgage payment, cheaper insurance, more.

Sounds like it's time for a visit... or a move?

I don't have most of that going on, since I'm a Cali girl born and bred, but I could go for cheaper rent... and everything else...

:)

I'm not gonna' lie - having a Target nearby is awesome and thunderstorms are the best free entertainment EVER! But, I think you may be misremembering the allure of Arby's...

Aww your list just made me so homesick for the Midwest.... no matter how long I'm in New York I'll always be a Midwest girl at heart.

I went to the Target near Brooklyn College last week and it was AMAZING. It even smelled like Target. A small piece of heaven.

Arby's blows. Target? Is nirvana.

tricia-
You can take a girl out of the midwest...

Hmmm. Maybe :) I LOVE CALI TOO THOUGH. Mainly, I'm just getting tired of the douchtasticness of the East Coast.

lainey-
OK I LOVE their chicken sandwiches. LOVE LOVE LOVE. And the curly fries are so good, but lately every time I have eaten them they have been soggy. Disappointing.

miss adventurous-
I don't dare go to the Target in Brooklyn. I fear it will ruin the experience for me. I once went to one in Yonkers and almost cried.

mary-
Fine then!

I live in the midwest now but lived in Delaware for a year or so right after college, and I have to agree with most of your list (except for the Iowa City part...that was substituted with Duluth for me). Not living in the midwest can totally suck.

And Target was the first place I asked for directions to when I got to my new place. I would rather drive 30 minutes to go to Target than shop anywhere else.

I lived away from IC after graduation moved back to IC 3 years later and I have to say I don't know why I ever left. I constantly hear college kids say that they can't wait to get out of this town, it makes me laugh. For some people I guess IC isn't their dream city, enduring financial and mental hardship while being able to say they live in "enter big city name here" is their dream....to each their own.

There are so many things on this list I can relate to, maybe a trip is in order?

Still, New York really is the greatest city EV-ERRR, as I continue to tell people even when I'm back in the Midwest.

I am loving your list. I grew up in NY, and as much as I miss it, I love the ease of living elsewhere.

Funny thing is I grew up 30minutes north of Manhattan and I miss all of these things too. 'Cept the smoking thing. My bad.

wow - you pay that much for rent? that's fucking insane. I'm from South Africa - and with the exchange rate, what you're paying works out to about 15,000 South African Rands. that's madness. that's the amount we pay on our mortgage, and we have 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a loft/study, lounge, kitchen, double garage, balcony and a big garden.

so life in your city must be damn expensive. hectic.

I just stumbled upon your blog (don't know how - just extreme boredom at work I guess) and I too went to school in Iowa City. I love Pancheros and I miss ginormous grocery stores too - ah . . . the midwest.

Yet, my experience with Some people from the Midwest, is that many who move here, suddenly become Yankee Fans(Often Claiming Lifelong Status).

I'm pretty sure there's an Arby's in the Manhattan Mall.

Boy, does this list ring true. I'm an Ohio girl who lives in NYC. College football!

Can we also include hearing "please" and "thank you" every now and again? And state fairs?
